Clinical Lead - Currents Clinical Counselling Merritt

Kiya has a master's degree in counselling psychology and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Kiya joins Currents Counselling with a passion for working with children, youth and young adults in conjunction with their families. Kiya is welcoming to all and supports LGBTQIA2S+ with a person-centred approach & curiosity. She specializes in trauma and crisis intervention for high-risk youth & families, including suicide intervention and rebuilding hope. Working with parents and their children/adolescents, Kiya facilitates a safe environment for scary conversations, often utilizing an emotion-focused model. Kiya practices from a trauma-informed lens to create a safe space that holds room for insecurities, empathy & compassion. She often utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support those struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation and trauma. She is also skilled in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. Kiya values a transparent dynamic in the therapeutic relationship to foster positivity, trust, and hope.

Kiya offers virtual appointments with some in-person availability in Merritt.

Christine Arndt MACP

Christine is passionate about supporting youth and young adults, offering a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental atmosphere where clients feel heard, understood, and validated. She takes a person-centered approach, working collaboratively with clients to explore their challenges and strengths.  Christine is dedicated to creating a warm and collaborative environment that honours each individual’s unique lived experience.

She is especially committed to helping clients uncover their confidence and resilience. Her belief in each person's capacity for growth and healing fosters a renewed sense of hope and possibility.

In addition to using a person-centered approach, Christine draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support clients in acknowledging and sitting with difficult emotions, thoughts, and sensations, while also encouraging value-based action to a meaningful life. She also integrates elements of expressive arts interventions, somatic awareness, Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to meet each clients' unique needs. 

Christine has a Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology.

Laura Rhodes, MACP, RCC, CCC

Laura is an Indigenous Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) offering both virtual and in-person sessions. She is registered with the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) and provides direct billing for eligible clients.

Laura brings over 20 years of experience supporting children, youth, and adults, with more than a decade of specialized work in addictions, psychosis, and grief. She has extensive training and clinical experience in addiction and substance use counselling and is particularly passionate about supporting individuals, families, and couples impacted by substance use, recovery, relapse, and co-occurring mental health concerns.

Her professional background spans community mental health, healthcare, and nonprofit settings, where she has worked with complex presentations and high-needs populations. Laura has also served in leadership roles as a team lead and clinical supervisor, offering mentorship and clinical guidance to other practitioners.

Laura’s approach to addictions work is compassionate, non-judgmental, and dignity-informed. She recognizes addiction as deeply connected to trauma, grief, identity, relationships, and systemic factors, and works collaboratively with clients to support harm reduction, recovery goals, and meaningful change at a pace that feels safe and sustainable.

Her practice integrates evidence-based approaches including Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and other integrative modalities, allowing her to tailor treatment to each client’s needs, strengths, and cultural context.

In addition to her clinical work, Laura provides clinical supervision and consultation to other practitioners, particularly in the areas of addictions, complex mental health, and trauma-informed care.

Laura offers in-person sessions in Kamloops and Merritt. She also offers virtual sessions.

Melody Isvik

Office Manager

Melody is the Office Manager for Currents Counselling. She has diverse experiences that include legal administration, sales, owning her own business and working with vulnerable populations. In her work with vulnerable populations Melody has supported elderly and those with unique needs and abilities, including neurodivergent individuals.

Melody has a kind and compassionate approach to life and understands the importance of being kind while supporting others whether in an administrative position or working one-on-one with individuals who require patience, kindness and compassion. She has a passion for helping others who experience barriers and is eager to find new ways to make life more enjoyable for those with unique needs and abilities.

Melody works virtually and offers flexible working hours.
