Shannon Ritchie, MC, RCC-ACS, RCC

Shannon is the founder and Clinical Director of Currents Counselling, where she leverages over a decade of post-masters experience to support couples and families. With a deep understanding of relationship dynamics, she has worked extensively with highly conflicted couples, those navigating separation and divorce, and families facing complex issues. Her background includes addressing concerns related to violence and conducting clinical risk assessments.

Recognizing that each relationship is unique, Shannon employs a collaborative approach tailored to the specific needs of the couples and families she serves. This emphasis on individualization allows her to provide effective support and facilitate healing in her client’s most important relationships.

In addition to her direct counselling services, Shannon is certified to complete risk assessments and Section 211 Reports, such as Hear the Child and Views of the Child, available in Kamloops, Salmon Arm, and virtually. She is also an Approved Clinical Supervisor through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, enhancing her commitment to guiding emerging professionals in the field.

As a Metis individual and staunch advocate for the LGBTQIA2S+ community, Zakary operates from an anti-oppressive and non-pathologizing framework. He emphasizes the importance of considering the comprehensive well-being of each individual's mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. His specialization in analyzing and evaluating relationship dynamics equips him to assist clients navigating challenging scenarios, including couples dealing with intense conflicts, infidelity, separation, and divorce.

As a Narrative therapist, Emily approaches each session with a belief in your expertise regarding your own life story. In the safe space that Emily creates, your stories are met with curiosity rather than judgment. There are no assumptions or labels to restrict your expression; instead, the focus is on hearing you, truly listening to the nuances of your experiences. As you reflect on and revise old narratives, you may find that fear and failure take a back seat, allowing new possibilities to emerge.

Emily is keenly attuned to the aspects of your story that may have been hard to accept or that you've resisted. This attention can reveal what is essential to you—what you protect and what you fight for in your life. She recognizes that our relationships are fundamental to our stories, encompassing our connection with ourselves, society, and even the intangible emotions we navigate, such as anger.

Ella LaFleur MACP, B.Ed, RCC

Ella brings a wealth of experience to her role, with a decade of involvement in the elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education systems across Alberta and British Columbia. Her primary focus on children and youth reflects her deep commitment to enhancing their well-being, while her skills are adaptable to individuals of all ages. Ella utilizes a number of therapeutic approaches including, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Expressive Art and Play Therapies.

Her longstanding interest in supporting children, teens, and their families stems from her passion for integrating mental health considerations into education. Ella's warm energy and her ability to listen with intention allow her to connect meaningfully with others. She prioritizes strengthening her community through dedicated service, making her a valuable resource for those in need.

Outside of her professional commitments, Ella enjoys outdoor activities with her family, reflecting the lifestyle they embraced after relocating to British Columbia for its natural beauty and opportunities for hiking, biking, swimming, and enjoying local wildlife.

Mikayla St Onge MACP, MCP, RCC

 From a young age, Mikayla aspired to help others. At the University of British Columbia, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts majoring in psychology and minoring in anthropology.

During her undergraduate studies, Mikayla became eager to seek a modality that prioritized and celebrated the uniqueness of the human condition and empowered individuals instead of pathologizing them. This inspired her to pursue a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

 Mikayla’s professional experience involves working with anxiety and stress, grief and loss, challenging life events and transitions, trauma and adversity, chronic pain and illnesses, and family and systemic work. Mikayla is especially passionate about building awareness, nervous system regulation, nurturing deep wounds, re-wiring maladaptive patterns, and building strong foundations from which clients can grow and flourish. With a focus on somatic and mindfulness-based practices, Mikayla supports individuals to become more attuned to their emotional triggers, reactions, thought patterns, beliefs, and somatic responses; fostering enhanced self-awareness, confidence, and resilience. Additionally, Mikayla has a special interest in working with youth experiencing life transitions and big emotions.

Mikayla wholeheartedly views people as insightful beings, capable of writing their own story, of self-growth, and of managing the challenges in their life. With this in mind, Mikayla offers a genuine and understanding posture from which people can feel heard, appreciated, and supported.

Jasmine Keller, RSW, MSW Intern

Jasmine is an intern counsellor at Currents Clinical Counselling in Salmon Arm, where she is completing her practicum under the supervision of experienced clinical supervisors. With over five years of experience in healthcare and mental health support roles, Jasmine brings a grounded, compassionate, and thoughtful presence to her work with clients.

She is committed to creating a safe and welcoming space where individuals feel seen, heard, and supported. Jasmine practices from a trauma-informed and person-centered perspective, with a deep respect for each person’s lived experience and inherent dignity.

Jasmine has a strong interest in narrative therapy and strength-based approaches, and she works collaboratively with clients to explore challenges, build resilience, and foster meaningful change. Her approach is warm, respectful, and rooted in a belief that healing begins in relationship.

As part of her internship, Jasmine is offering counselling services at a reduced rate, providing an accessible option for individuals seeking support.

Melody Isvik

Melody is the Office Manager for Currents Clinical Counselling. She has diverse experiences that include legal administration, sales, owning her own business and working with vulnerable populations. In her work with vulnerable populations Melody has supported elderly and those with unique needs and abilities, including neurodivergent individuals.

Melody has a kind and compassionate approach to life and understands the importance of being kind while supporting others whether in an administrative position or working one-on-one with individuals who require patience, kindness and compassion. She has a passion for helping others who experience barriers and is eager to find new ways to make life more enjoyable for those with unique needs and abilities.

Melody works virtually and has flexible working hours.
