Shawna is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with a Master’s Degree in Counselling. She works with children (10 + years old), adolescents, young adults, and families. Her work is grounded in compassion, connection, and curiosity, and is shaped by a strong belief in each person’s resilience and capacity for growth.
Shawna supports clients navigate a range of concerns including anxiety, trauma, self-worth, shame, grief, chronic pain, and substance use. She also has experience working with individuals with neurodiversities.
Shawna’s approach is integrative and holistic, attending to the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of well-being. She brings warmth, grounding, and youthful energy into her sessions and adapts her work to meet the unique needs and identities of each client.
She specializes in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and is currently completing her certification. Her practice blends EMDR with Polyvagal Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Narrative Therapy, and creative modalities like play and expressive arts. She is a member of EMDR Canada and EMDRIA.
In addition to ongoing therapy, Shawna offers in-person EMDR Intensives—concentrated sessions designed for individuals looking to move through stuck points, manage transitions, or access early intervention after recent distressing events. Intensives are especially supportive for clients who want deep, focused work and may not be able to attend weekly sessions.
Shawna is also is passionate about supporting the growth of emerging clinicians and is working toward her CCC-S designation as a clinical supervisor. As Clinical Lead in Kamloops, she supports a team of clinicians with a focus on trauma-informed care, professional development, and integrative practice.

Bria Gatien, MC, RCC

Bria is a Registered Clinical Counsellor specializing in supporting individuals and families with self-worth, trauma, and emotional healing. She collaborates with clients to explore and transform negative beliefs about themselves and challenges in relationships, helping them reconnect with their inherent worth and create more meaningful connections with others.
Using a compassionate, client-centered approach, Bria integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Narrative Therapy to support emotional healing and personal growth. IFS, in particular, helps clients identify and nurture the parts of themselves that have been hurt or neglected, leading to greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and transformation.
Bria has over 10 years of experience working with individuals and families navigating complex dynamics, including those related to developmental disabilities and neurodiversity. Her work examines feelings of inadequacy, negative beliefs, and how societal biases impact personal and relational experiences.
In her counselling practice, Bria focuses on helping clients shift unhelpful patterns, improve relationships, and move toward lasting change—empowered with more confidence and a deeper sense of self-acceptance.

Christina Lang, MACP, RCC

Christina is passionate about supporting couples and families as they navigate life’s challenges—whether they’re rebuilding trust, managing parenting stress, adjusting to a new diagnosis, or co-parenting after separation. She offers a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where clients feel seen, understood, and supported.
In addition to her work with families, Christina has a special interest in working with children under 12 through play therapy.She is currently completing certification with the Canadian Play Therapy Association. Christina works closely with neurodivergent children and adults, as well as individuals with developmental disabilities, approaching each person’s experience with empathy, respect, and affirmation.
Extending this work, Christina also offers behaviour consultation, collaborating with parents and caregivers to better understand their child or the person they are caring for. Sheworks from a non-ableist, Positive Behaviour Support framework aimed at improving quality of life while preserving her clients’ dignity.
Clients often describe Christina as warm, grounding, and easy to connect with. She believes that conflict and stress often reflect a misalignment with core values. By exploring these patterns with curiosity, individuals and families can build stronger, more compassionate relationships.

Ashley is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education Counselling. For more than 10 years she has worked as either an educator or counsellor in elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education systems supporting both students and families.
Ashley has extensive experience working with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, generational trauma, stress, relationship conflict, parental support, and life transitional events. She uses a holistic model to support healing while providing a person-centered approach.
Ashley is a proud Indigenous Secwépemc woman from Secwépemc'ulucw and has a passion for supporting Indigenous people through adversity. She prides herself in providing an environment of curiosity and support to ensure all her clients feel heard and seen in their sessions with her. Ashley works with women of all ages.

Nicole Arnould, RSW, RCC

Grounded in a feminist framework, Nicole is a social justice-oriented, anti-oppressive practitioner committed to providing dignity-driven, person-centred care through an anti-violence lens. Her approach integrates multiple therapeutic modalities, including Narrative Therapy, Hakomi, EMDR, CBT, Aboriginal Family Systems, and specialized expertise in assessing and treating intimate partner violence.
Nicole practices on the traditional, unceded territories of the Secwepemc Peoples. Having spent most of her life in Kamloops and adolescence in Iqaluit, Nunavut, she has cultivated a deep connection to the land and the diverse communities that have shaped her.
With over 30 years of experience, Nicole brings a comprehensive approach to therapy that includes one-on-one client support, family counselling, clinical supervision, and group facilitation. Nicole’s expertise spans risk assessment for violence, working with adjudicated high-risk offenders and supporting victims of violence. Holding dual designations in Social Work and Clinical Counseling, Nicole has also dedicated 15 years to senior leadership roles within the nonprofit sector. She has excelled in developing responsive programs, fostering practice groups, and implementing evidence-based, results-driven practices. Her work is rooted in empowering individuals and creating meaningful, sustainable change.

Shannon is the founder and Clinical Director of Currents Counselling, where she leverages over a decade of post-masters experience to support couples and families. With a deep understanding of relationship dynamics, she has worked extensively with highly conflicted couples, those navigating separation and divorce, and families facing complex issues. Her background includes addressing concerns related to violence and conducting clinical risk assessments.
Recognizing that each relationship is unique, Shannon employs a collaborative approach tailored to the specific needs of the couples and families she serves. This emphasis on individualization allows her to provide effective support and facilitate healing in her client’s most important relationships.
In addition to her direct counselling services, Shannon is certified to complete risk assessments and Section 211 Reports, such as Hear the Child and Views of the Child, available in Kamloops, Salmon Arm, and virtually. She is also an Approved Clinical Supervisor through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, enhancing her commitment to guiding emerging professionals in the field.

Amy is a clinical counsellor at Currents Clinical Counselling in Kamloops. She holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) and brings over 17 years of experience working with children and adolescents as an educator and mentor. Amy has taught across a variety of settings in Montreal, Vancouver, and Kamloops, and currently teaches Theatre Arts and Film at South Kamloops Secondary School.
With a long-standing passion for supporting youth, Amy has a deep understanding of the developmental, emotional, and relational challenges that young people face. Her work is rooted in the belief that every individual holds inherent worth and the capacity for growth, and she creates a space where clients—especially teens and young adults—feel seen, respected, and encouraged.

Kasha is a highly experienced clinical counsellor at Currents Clinical Counselling, bringing over two decades of work in healthcare, mental health, and leadership. She holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology Counselling and has served in diverse roles including bedside RN, Clinical Educator, Director of Care, and Mental Health Complex Behaviour Specialist. These experiences have shaped her integrative, socially just, and deeply person-centered approach to therapy.
Kasha is widely respected for her leadership in developing trauma-informed policies and delivering education that centers intersectionality, intergenerational trauma, and acculturative stress. Her clinical lens is grounded in the biopsychosocial model, with a strong emphasis on relational connection, emotional safety, and collaborative care. She brings vibrant energy and clarity to her sessions, ensuring that clients feel seen, heard, and valued.
With a foundation in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and advanced expertise in grief, loss, and existential concerns—particularly shaped by her extensive work in palliative care—Kasha supports individuals through life’s most complex transitions. Her background as a certified health coach and wellness practitioner also informs her integrative approach; she is trained in yoga, fitness, meditation, and dance, and incorporates these practices to enhance both physical literacy and mental well-being when appropriate.

Megan is a Junior Associate at Currents Clinical Counselling and holds a Master of Counselling degree. She brings an open, authentic, and compassionate energy to her work, creating a safe and inclusive space where clients of all ages feel seen, supported, and valued.
With a passion for working with children, youth, adults, and families, Megan has experience supporting parents in navigating their children’s mental health and brings a deep respect for the unique strengths and resilience each person carries. Melody is the Office Manager for Currents Counselling. She has diverse experiences that include legal administration, sales, owning her own business and working with vulnerable populations. In her work with vulnerable populations Melody has supported elderly and those with unique needs and abilities, including neurodivergent individuals.
Melody has a kind and compassionate approach to life and understands the importance of being kind while supporting others whether in an administrative position or working one-on-one with individuals who require patience, kindness and compassion. She has a passion for helping others who experience barriers and is eager to find new ways to make life more enjoyable for those with unique needs and abilities.
